Calibres Talk
We can start this discussion by referring to the size & bone structure of animals that will be hunted. In general we shoot medium to short range shots, as the bushveld allows one the benefit of not having to shoot long range shots.
Most animals are soft-skinned & require slow to moderate bullet speeds.
We do not recommend the very fast calibres like Ultra Magnum and Weatherby types, because of severe meat damage... on the other hand if you hunt for trophy only, then it really doesn't matter(as long as you make use of high quality bonded bullets or premium grade bullets like the A-Frame, Barnes-X, Norma etc.). 


Remember that shot placement is still the most important factor in hunting.


Calibres which are successfully used on the ranch are:
For antelope (all calibres from 6.5 mm):

.243 Winchester (Pigs, Impala) ............... Pigs = Warthog & Bushpig

.270 Winchester (Pigs,Impala,Kudu)

7 X 57 or 7 X 64 mm (Pigs,Impala,Kudu, Oryx, Waterbuck)

.308 Winchester (Pigs,Impala,Kudu, Oryx, Waterbuck)

.30-06 Springfield (Pigs,Impala,Kudu, Oryx, Waterbuck)


.338 Winchester Magnum (Pigs, Impala, Kudu, Oryx, Waterbuck, Eland)

9.3 X 62 mm (Pigs, Impala, Kudu, Oryx, Waterbuck, Eland)

.375 H&H Winchester Magnum (Pigs, Impala, Kudu, Oryx, Waterbuck, Eland)

For game birds:

12 or 16 Gauge Shot Gun (Guineafowl, Francolin)
.22 Rimfire (Guineafowl, Francolin)

We will gladly prepare & cook any Game Birds shot .................. so remember to bring along a suitable shotgun.
